With the foresight of our founders the first satellite terminal was purchased in 1986. Although, for years we had operated in the area, this land acquisition strengthened the commitment to our customers. The Chicago market has always been crucial to the operations. Being one of the first companies to run turnpike doubles, this location gave us a “break” point for this specialty equipment.
Gary, Indiana is located just south of Lake Michigan in the northwestern corner of the state. With routes 80, 90, 94, and 65 within miles of the terminal. We have direct access to the main arteries of the highway. This location is ideal for servicing the steel industry.
Situated on fourteen acres of land is ample parking, an office, and full service garage. Our fenced and lighted yard is located at 7000 Chicago Avenue in Gary. The office staff processes the driver's paperwork, dispatches, and meets the customers needs. At P. I. & I. Motor Express, Inc. the customer is always number one!
The facility has state of the are computer equipment. From a fully automated gauging/ testing fuel system to document scanning and a T1 Internet connection. In addition to these, computerized diagnostic tools are used in the shop. From phones, to faxes, to emails we employ the latest available technology. All loads are entered into the mainframe computers to allow tracking and maximize equipment usage.
The maintenance program is second to none. Each terminal tracks their domiciled equipment and follows rigid guidelines. All equipment is safety inspected weekly. With highly trained technicians and routine maintenance, downtime is greatly reduced. When problems are encountered they are promptly dealt with.
